Watching hellboy at the moment. Why did they have to completely change the start?

Because a competent director couldn't be found for the first one

Because it's not a book. I don't think you'll like the film because you are going into it from the graphic novel point of view.

Was it not the same director on both?

Was it? I think they changed producers then. I know someone high up did some big change, and they got a lot more free roamin in the second one

And why oh why do they have to put a love angle on the shit?

so is Hellboy 2 any good? from a movie standpoint (i haven't read the comics)

Well i had heard good things, but i didn't think much of hellboy 1. I'm very glad i read the comic first.

    Another failed comic conversion.

I assume watchmen is going to be a disappointment as well.

Of course, that being said. Even if you haven't read the comics, i can't see how that would rate as a good movie.

    Because it's silly

Del Toro has a history of being pushed around by producers, he did Mimic, for God's sake. I think he's just a bit too nice to really put the foot down with Hollywood so you end up with compromise films like Hellboy. 2 is more his movie.

Silly is ok, but I don't know, I just cringe when I see moronic "love elements" thrown in there, and consistently got the feeling that it could have been done so much better.

Pan's labyrinth was pretty good, as was the devil's backbone.

Producers should keep their nose out ;)

    I haven't seen mimic. Tripe?

  • Festoon

Well they didn't have Hollywood producers! Mimic is a great idea with some great design but it just gets silly and not scary.

He did Chronos as well. That was good.

    Chronos. I'll check it out.

Cronos is a good film to watch, the Devils Backbone was okay, but a little slow in places and I loved Pan's Labyrinth.
