well, we're installed and speedtest.net is reporting around 3mb
down 1.5mb up.
This is staggeringly better than lastmile. However I'm seeing an
awful lot of timeouts on pings to our server, which isn't so good.
More investigating to be made.
That's really good new to get the bump in speed. Ping timeouts
are a bit of a worry alright - would be worth looking at the route
to your server I guess
It's more of a ramp than a bump! A comparison of the two:
Last mile placed our dish at the lowest point of the eaves of
the house, and when we complained about crap connection they told
us we didn't have line of sight and that it was a miracle we were
getting a connection and that we should be happy.
Arden went to the highest gable end, used a 4 foot mounting
pole, and we've got clear line of sight.
Re: the timeouts, we're going to test it off against different
servers and work out where it's happening. Probably get our server
admin to have a look around and see what's going on.
At first we were getting disastrous timeouts at our 4th hop,
which we figured was from the mast to it's next point. We switched
everything off and left it off for about 10 minutes and it's
looking pretty good right now. Still have the occasional time out,
but they're pretty infrequent.

Well, they've surveyed. Claim perfect LOS and are installing. Only time will tell!

@Evertb So we'd have fun trying to set up a wi-fi hotspot then? I'm not sure there's a demand for it where we are though ;)
@CiaranR I'm as happy as a pig in shite. Pages are loading quickly, 3mb emails come down in 10 seconds instead of 2-4 minutes.
